Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that's why it is so complicated.

    Target Demographic

I began this project by looking at the many different designs from the various brands that develop electric wine bottle openers. One of the biggest problems I saw was the lack of discoverability in other designs. The first electric wine bottle opener I saw in person was in a thrift store, I had no idea what it was when I first layed my eyes on it. It was only after messing with it for a few minutes that I realized that it was a bottle opener. I saw this as a major flaw in its design.

I then looked at the design itself and realized that all electric wine bottle openers have the exact same shape, a cylinder with a few buttons. I knew this could easily be improved upon given the lack of control the user has on the cylindrical shape when attempting to open their bottle of wine.

    User Interviews

Before starting the design process I cunducted user interviews to get input from my target demographic. I got a better understanding of what they look for in wine bottle openers.

“It would be nice if it was smaller so
bartenders or waitors could carry it from table to table easier”

“Something like this would be perfect for caterers who need to open large amounts of bottles under a time crunch”

“I have ruined and broke many corks
trying to use the standard wine bottle opener”

“When it is really busy, spending the time to open a bottle can get very
annoying”

“When bottles are shaken they can get very hard to open”

“This product could be very helpful, but might look bit goofy if I were to use it at work”

“Because the population is getting older and there are more elderly people in the work force this is perfect”

“The standard ‘waitors friend’ wine bottle opener is hard to use, it
requires a lot of muscle”

“Since I am not a bartender or ‘wine traditionalist’ I want to use whats
easiest for me”

Concept Sketching

After
During the sketch process, I realized that a ‘T’ shaped wine bottle opener would not only fit more comfortably in the user's hand, but it also provides more stability when uncorking a wine bottle.

Photoshop Renders

I took my ‘T’ shape design into photoshop and made colored renderings. I made the bottom half transparent to signify to users right away that it is a wine bottle opener.

I made the finish glossy red to resemble the color of wine. I also made the back plate black silicone to give the user the best grip.

CAD model

I took my final design into SolidWorks and began to model my electric wine bottle opener.
In SolidWorks I modeled the exterior as well as all of the interior components.

Logo Design

I created my Tivera logo to show the overall shape of the product with the capital T. I also made the logo red purple and gold to resemble the color of red and white wine.

Final Design Poster

After completing this project I created a poster for it to market my product to potential buyers.
