︎ProcessProblem Statement
In the past 30 years, the amount of money spent on food away from home has increased over 30%. This can be attributed primarily to the younger generations of Gen Z and younger Millennials. One reason for this is due to the fact that these generations weren't quite taught how to cook for themselves. It can also be attributed to more time spent at the office giving people less time to cook at home for their family or even for themselves.
Research Question
How can I improve the process of cooking and cleaning in the kitchen for younger generations such as Gen Z's and younger Milleniels?
Concept Sketching
After understanding my research question, I decided to focus on the cleaning aspect of cooking. Many people are discouraged from cooking due to the amount of cleaning that is required afterwards, I wanted to create an attractive and utilitarian kitchen tool to make it easier for people to clean up after cooking, ultimately encouraging more people to cook at home.
I thought of different ways to accomplish this goal and came up with a concept for a faucet head that both brushes and rinses at the same time.
Physical Models
From my concept sketches, I took the idea of a faucet head with two buttons changing the spray type and a bottom that rotates to release the brush. I created a foam model based on these sketches to test the ergonomics.
I had many people with different sized hands hold it and give their feedback. The biggest problem was the girth of the model. I took those notes and decided to slim the faucet head down, while still making sure the brush would fit inside.
Photoshop Renders
I took my final design sketches and foam model and made a photoshop render of the faucet head. The body of the faucet head is polished stainless steel. The button and the rotator will be a matte black plastic.

CAD Model
The CAD model was made in SolidWorks. I modeled the exterior and made a rough model of the interior.
I took into acount the feedback I got on the foam models and made sure to slim down the profile of the faucet head so that it fits better in hands of all sizes.
Appearance Model
I 3D printed the faucet head, put all the pieces together and painted it to have an appearance model. I did this to get a better undersanding of the ergonomics of the faucet head.
After changing the girth of the faucet head from the foam model it’s ergonomics were greatly improved.
